Reviving the old

So on my old Honda the Hydraulic clutch quit working.  I could pull the lever all the way to the grip and the clutch would not disengage.  I've never bled a hydraulic system before but figure that since I understand the concepts I should be able to figure it as I go along.  I went down to the NAPA store and bought a bottle of DOT 4 fluid and a nifty bleed bottle with a magnet so it can be attached above the slave cylinder.

When I too k the cover off the resevour (sp?) it was nearly devoid of fluid.  I filled it up open the and the nipple and started squeezing the nasty nasty crap out while adding new stuff.  Eventually, I fould that I need to close the bleed nipple and leave the cap off to squeeze the ait out of the system.  After awhile I quit getting bubbles, put the top back on, reopened the bleed nipple to ensure there were no bubbles on that end and it all works.

The inside of the system still looks really cruddy and it seems that I should take it all apart and clean it with something, but I fear this is an area where I might screw it up with my method of figuring it out as I go.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Namor

Working on the SC sounds like my experience when working on my home. As soon as I open something up, I see things I don't want to.  So I just smear some dry wall paste over the hole in the plaster and pretend I didn't see it. Maybe the new DOT4 will just dissolve the crud completely?

Maybe so.  Cables are sure looking better today...
